CEW Wheels compete at Wheelchair Super X

Trevor "Trevair" Snowden at Abilities Expo 2011CEW’s X-Core wheels raced all over the Los Angeles stop of the Abilities Expo.  At the Expo, Wheelchair Super X, an obstacle course for wheelchairs, featured X-Core wheels on suspension chairs.  The course saw many contestants riding a suspension chair and X-Core wheels for the first time.

“X-Core wheels provide the stealthy good looks, performance and durability to handle the Wheelchair Super X,” says event creator Trevor “Trevair” Snowden.  At the show, the new SCOOTAIR chair was debuted, fitted with a new set of X-Core 3-spoke wheels, front and rear Shox no-flat Tires out of CEW’s Reynosa facility, and CEW 5” caster wheels from our Tupelo plant.

CEW Adds Machinery

Warsaw, Indiana – Custom Engineered Wheels (CEW) completed the purchase and installation of a new, state-of-the-art plastic injection press and 3-axis handling robot at the company’s headquarters in Warsaw, Indiana.  This is the second major capacity addition in 2011(joining a blow molding press in January) and brings the total number of plastic presses to over 30, strategically located in the US and Mexico.

“We’re achieving a 25% power savings with this new 720 ton Nissei press and because it is brand new, we’re saving on maintenance costs,” says Plant Manager Jeremy Howard.  “The new robot allows fast, safe and easy handling of heavy products and the ability to run Lost Core injection molding cell in Indiana.”

CEW is very excited to announce the addition of blow molding capabilities in our Warsaw Indiana facility. CEW continues its leadership position by offering an expanded capability and product diversification to its customers and to the market.

CEW can offer wheel and associated blow molded products based on the purchase of a Davis Standard blow molding press installed in Warsaw Indiana. CEW will be able to support customers’ needs standard blow molded wheels as well as quiet cap blow molded products.  CEW tread-cap products continue to lead the market in quality, performance, delivery and value. World-class athlete Saul Mendoza took part in “La Expedition”, a “docu-reality” drama featured in eight one-hour broadcasts. The show followed the path of eleven people with different disabilities seeking to achieve a lofty goal: to make an expedition from Laguna de Aljojuca, in Puebla, to las Dunas de Chachalacas on the coast of Veracruz state in Mexico. Following different routes passing through areas of historical content (such as the route of Cortez) participants run through diverse landscapes ranging from tropical jungles to mountain climate.

Warsaw, Indiana, USA. (October 28, 2009) – Hamilton Robinson LLC, a private equity firm based in Stamford, Connecticut, announced today that Hamilton Robinson Capital Partners L.P. III, together with management and certain co-investors, has acquired the business of Spartech Industries, Inc. (Wheels Division), aka Custom Engineered Wheels, Inc. (CEW) from parent company Spartech Corporation. CEW will become a stand-alone company with no changes in management structure or day-to-day business operations.

CEW is the largest North American manufacturer of custom engineered, non-pneumatic wheels for lawn and garden products and wheelchairs. Under the current management team, it has demonstrated a solid track record of profitable growth over the past five years.
